3 Ways To Know If A Business Is Lying To You Online

3 min read

The advent of the Internet has made shopping easier than ever. While you used to be stuck with only buying the items that could be bought and sold in your own town, you can now purchase things directly from sellers or businesses all over the world. However, when you’re buying something from a seller that you don’t know and haven’t met, there’s always a chance that they could be tricking you. Luckily, there are a few things that you can do to help keep this from happening to you and those you love, even your grandparents who are shopping from the comfort of their assisted living bedrooms.

To help you see how this can be done, here are three ways to know if a business is lying to you online.

Look Into Their Contact Info

One of the first places that you can look to see if an online business is legitimate is at their contact information.

If a business isn’t real, they’re going to make it hard for people to find them and contact them. Knowing this, if you see that the website you’re considering making a purchase from has all kinds of contact information and is encouraging people to reach out to them, this could be a good sign.

To double check this, try reaching out to them yourself. If you never hear anything back or can’t get in touch with a real person, this could be a sign that the business is just trying to do anything to make a buck, minus actually being a legitimate business.

Check Out Their Website And Social Media Profiles

When you’re looking at this company’s website, you should be looking at everything with an eye towards the legitimate. If things don’t look like something a real, professional business would do, there might be cause for concern.

In addition to their website, you should also take a peek at their social media profiles. If they don’t have social media profiles, this might be a red flag. On the other hand, if they are very active on social media and get a lot of genuine interaction from people, this could be a good sign. You may also want to check out any comments to see if anyone is complaining about the business and being taken advantage of.

Search Them With The BBB

If the business that you’re considering purchasing from is a US business, you can also look them up through the BBB, or Better Business Bureau.

When someone has an issue with a business, they can make a complaint with the BBB that other consumers can see. So if you see that other people have had issues with this business, you might want to take that as a sign that you should shop somewhere else.

If you want to make sure that you’re only working with reputable businesses, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you in doing this.
